Why didn't Hitler want to run away from Berlin? Here is a simple explanation

Wikilatief - Why didn't Hitler want to run away from Berlin? It's easy, because Hitler wanted to die with the capital of the Reich.

When Germany was on the brink of defeat, around the beginning of 1945, when the Allies besieged Germany from the West, and the Red Army besieged Germany from the East, Hitler's generals had warned Hitler that he would immediately evacuate from Berlin to these three locations:

• Berghof, Obersalzberg, Berchtesgaden, Bavaria

The Berghof was Hitler's residence in Obersalzberg, Germany. The Berghof has panoramic views of the Bavarian Alps leading to Austria, the Führer's homeland.

The Berghof's location was perfect because of its location beyond the reach of allied bombers at the time, as well as the difficult mountainous terrain of the infantry (therefore berghof was chosen by Hitler's generals for the evacuation site).

• Kehlsteinhaus, Obersalzberg
Kehlsteinhaus, or Eagle's

Nest is one site with berghof, namely in Obersalzberg. The Kehlstreinhaus was used on a mountain at an altitude of 1,834 m. Allied bombers would have difficulty attacking at that altitude. You could say it's pretty safe.

• Führerhauptquartiere Wasserburg (Wolf's lair)

Führerhauptquartiere Wasserburg was Hitler's commando when the Germans launched Operation Barbarossa.

Führerhauptquartiere Wasserburg has a wide variety, one of which is Wolf's lair, located in East Prussia. But unfortunately Wolf's Lair was captured by the Red Army in January 1945.

But Hitler refused to evacuate from Berlin

When the Allies, and especially the Red Army were so close to Berlin, Hitler's generals once again called for Hitler to evacuate from Berlin, but Hitler once again refused.

And this time Hitler said that he wanted to celebrate his 56th birthday in Berlin as an honor, and for the German people to feel the Führer was with them.

Finally, when the Red Army made it through the German defenses in Seelow Heights, Hitler's generals questioned Hitler once again,

"Does Hitler want to evacuate from Berlin to the Berghof?"

Hitler replied aloud, "I will not!, I live with this Reich and I will die with this Reich too!"

According to Hitler, if he had been killed in Berlin, it would have been a great honor, especially as leader of Germany at that time.

So, he insisted on staying in Berlin until the end. So, on April 30, 1945, Hitler finally committed suicide out of desperation. At least the Führer died in Berlin...
