wikilatief--Why did Britain go to war with Argentina? This conflict between Britain and Argentina in fighting over the Falkland Islands ended with a war cry between the two countries on different continents.

The war, known as the Malvinas War, took place in 1982 in the Falkland region.

The bustle of the rain of gunpowder and missiles of about 1,900 soldiers from both sides is now a memory.

There is only an inch of a deserted island with hundreds of thousands of sheep and thousands of mines that can explode at any time.

It all started when a group of scraps of scrap metal from Argentina found an old and abandoned base that was used for communication purposes with ships at sea, raising the Argentine flag loudly over the base.

It later learned that some of the group's members turned out to be members of the Argentine military.

At that time, the Argentine government was held and controlled by the military.

This authoritarian government leadership is led by a dictator who is also a general named Leopoldo Galtieri.

Argentina claims to be the rightful owner of the Falkland Islands, including South Georgia Island and the South Sandwich Islands, because of the islands' proximity.

They also considered that Spain had given the Falkland territorial rights to Argentina since 1810.

However, all the claims made by Argentina were not strong enough to take Falkland from British hands.

Because the Falkland Islands are British territory that have been controlled since the 19th century and Argentina.

Geographically, they think that these islands are their territory, trying to control and attack.

On March 19, 1982, Argentina declared war on Britain, by controlling the island of South Georgia and raising the Argentine flag on the disputed island.

Then Argentina also tried to develop various strategies to defeat British troops.

Argentina knows that Britain is a very strong country on the battlefield, because they have been at war since the 19th century.

The Argentine troops wanted to match the British experience with the sheer size of their war army.

Argentine warships, fully equipped, began to enter the archipelago south of the Atlantic Ocean.

Argentine troops really prepared themselves as much as possible to face British troops, including bluffing the warships.

However, Britain was not at all afraid of Argentine troops. They made various observations to make a strategy to weaken the Argentine troops.

On April 12, 1982, Britain declared a 200-mile Maritime Exclusive Zone around the disputed islands to weaken the Argentine power that was beginning to dare to approach.

Finally, war broke out when Argentine troops entered the British Maritime Exclusive Zone.

This small archipelago, located at the bottom of the South American continent, with a population of only 3,400 people, became a "dispute" between Britain and Argentina in 1982.

The condition of Argentina at that time was really sad and in a slump, the high poverty rate and serious human rights violations.

Government officials must certainly find a way to keep the public trusting and supporting them, fighting to take over the Falkland Islands is one of the efforts to gain that trust.

Actually, the effort to seize small islands and not rich in natural resources was aimed more precisely at creating a solution to the issues that were happening at that time.

Military officials believe that the public will consider this move a heroic and patriotic move, in fact many disagree.

Then an Admiral named Jorge Anaya became the main figure behind Argentina's invasion of the Falkland islands.

Anaya believed that the ultimate solution to the invasion was the best thing to claim geographically that the Falkland Islands were part of Argentine territory.

He also believed and calculated that Britain would not send a military force reply, his calculation was very wrong.

The battle in the Falkland War took 10 weeks and killed around 250 British military personnel and destroyed several ships and other military vehicles.

On the Argentine side, about 640 military personnel lost to military vehicle damage which was also very costly.

United States support, which Argentina hoped in return for helping train Contras guerrillas against the Sandinistas in Nicaragua, was not obtained. The US chose to support Britain in this conflict.

The end result of the Falkland War itself gave victory to Britain which later also led to the collapse of the authoritarian Argentine government and returned to a democratic state.

British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, had a significant impact which made her name and government soar so that in the next election Thatcher was able to win again.

Conclusion: The British are fighting to defend their territorial sovereignty and show the world that they are not playing about their territory.
